A Journey of Compassion, Purpose, and Continued Growth

Every nurse has a story worth sharing. These journeys remind us of the dedication it takes to care for others and the many directions a nursing career can take.

This November, LVN Learning Institute is proud to recognize Sherry Stokes, LVN, LNC, whose journey spans more than 30 years in healthcare. From her beginnings as a Certified Nursing Assistant to her work as a Licensed Vocational Nurse and Legal Nurse Consultant, Sherry’s story celebrates a lasting commitment to patient care and professional growth.

Where Her Journey Began

Sherry began her healthcare career as a CNA, where she discovered her passion for patient care and serving others. That experience became the foundation for her next step: pursuing nursing.

Determined to advance her skills and expand her impact, Sherry entered nursing school in 1996 and proudly graduated in 1997 as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. This milestone marked the beginning of a nursing career filled with opportunities to learn, adapt, and support patients in different settings.

 A Career Across Specialties

Throughout her career, Sherry has gained experience in Case Management, Utilization Review, Med-Surg, Rehabilitation, Telemetry, Labor & Delivery, Psychiatry, Corrections, and Nursing Education.

Working across these specialties has given her a broad understanding of patient needs and the demands of healthcare. Whether supporting vulnerable populations, helping patients navigate complex care plans, or mentoring the next generation of nurses, Sherry has brought dedication and compassion to her work.

 Her journey also highlights the variety of opportunities within nursing. The skills developed through patient care can become the foundation for new roles in education, care coordination, advocacy, and beyond.

Continuing to Learn and Grow

In 2025, Sherry reached another professional milestone by earning her Legal Nurse Consultant certification. This achievement added medical-legal knowledge to her extensive clinical background and reflected her continued commitment to learning.

Even after decades in healthcare, Sherry has continued to pursue new goals. Her progression from CNA to LVN to LNC reminds us that professional growth does not end after graduation or after reaching a certain number of years in practice.

This November, we celebrate Sherry for her years of service, her commitment to caring for others, and her willingness to keep growing.
