Continuing Education for Alaska LPNs

LVN Learning Institute offers relevant nursing courses developed by an experienced nurse educator to strengthen clinical knowledge, patient safety, and professional nursing practice.

LVN Learning Institute is a California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians approved continuing education provider, CEP #15135.

Alaska LPN Continuing Competency Requirements

The Alaska Board of Nursing requires Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to complete two of the following three options during each two-year renewal period:

🔵 30 contact hours of qualifying continuing education
🔵 30 hours of qualifying uncompensated professional activities
🔵 320 hours of employment as an RN or LPN

Choosing the continuing education option? Our 30-hour bundle provides nursing education to support the CE portion of your renewal plan. You must also satisfy one of the other competency options unless you qualify for an alternative pathway.

The Board also recognizes alternative methods of demonstrating continued competency, such as an approved nursing refresher course or qualifying additional nursing education.

Maintaining an Active Alaska LPN License

To stay prepared for renewal:

🔵 Complete your selected competency requirements within the applicable two-year renewal period
🔵 Keep your course completion certificates and supporting competency records available for a Board audit
🔵 Confirm that your continuing education meets Alaska’s course and provider requirements
🔵 Submit your renewal application and required fee before your license expires

Please note: Completing a 30-hour CE bundle alone does not fulfill Alaska’s entire continuing competency requirement. CPR and basic life support (BLS) courses do not count toward the CE option.
